Sterling Ks. Continued
The year our Sterling B&B was built.
Beautiful stairway.
Claw foot tub.
I know. This is just what you wanted to see!
The closet was stacked with darling quilts
Little antique touches in all the rooms.
Another room, but we were the only ones there.
A pink flowered room.
The sitting room. Very nice.
Our great host and hostess, Hank and Nancy. Nancy prepared our gourmet breakfasts and Hank helped serve. He's an ex pro football player.
Pumpkin apple waffles with pecan praline sauce. We're going to have to ride ten extra miles today! Before they served this, they served us an orange pineapple 'something' in a sherbet glass. Oh right...eggs too. We told them we'd love to stay longer but couldn't afford the calories!
And to think we might have missed beautiful Sterling, the great people, and the fabulous ride we had here if we hadn't had our car! The car has been no disadvantage - just given us extra freedom to ride scenic routes instead of the Trans America. We're loving it!

Our hotel for at least one night. We'll decide after we see the biking possibilities. This place honestly looks like it's right out of Sweden. Is this really Kansas?
It's an old building and only has 19 rooms.
Can't wait!
The lounge area where I'm sitting and blogging right now.
View from the top. Who is that hottie?
A pretty little bridge we discovered while riding. Look close - we're there!
A woman walking her dog thought we needed help and came to the rescue. We ended up talking to her for fifteen minutes. So many wonderful people!

It looks like it was built hundreds of years ago, but it was actually a project built in 1932.
The interior had huge beams and looked ancient. This was supposed to be the original site for the town of Lindsborg. I have no idea why it was built five miles away.

The only sounds we could hear were the wind, birds, and insects. I would have hated to miss this. Kansas is anything but boring!
You just have to get off of I-70 and see it from a bike!
After our picnic excursion, we hopped on the bike and did some local pedaling. Bethany College is here with an enrollment of 700-800. If you can read the sign behind Steve, it explains why they call themselves the Terrible Swedes.
As you've probably figured out, this was a big Swedish settlement because in the early 1900s, they were giving land away in Kansas and people in Sweden were starving.
In Sweden, they say all the best ones came to America.
