BLOG CATCH UP - FILLING IN THE GAPS

Monday in Scott City

Screaming yellow vests and near blinding tail light. Visible for miles, and on this foggy and misty day, we were glad to have them! We had to take our glasses off to see.

Does 'In Cold Blood' by Truman Capote ring a bell? We had no idea we were visiting the town of this horrible occurance. Pretty sad for a town to be forever known for this event.

Our first Subway and we thought we'd find them everywhere.

Made us feel at home.

This cash crop is all over this part of Kansas. From a distance, they look like giraffes standing in the field.

This is a storage depot for their black gold.

Meet Farmer Billings. He and his son in law were so gracious to show us around the farm.

We actually saw him earlier in the day when he saw our bike lights about a mile down the road from his farm and drove to see if we needed help. On our return trip, we stopped to ask permission to photograph his equipment.

THE FOLLOWING QUIZ IS FOR SAM AND ANY OTHERS THAT LIKE HEAVY EQUIPMENT

Guess which job each piece of equpment performs. Answers at end of today's blog.

The hand that plants the seeds to grow the corn. Proud to be a farmer.

Works hard and helps feed the country.

3000 seeds planted to an acre and about 8000 seeds per bag.

This farm is 3600 acres and his brother in law still needs to plant 7000 acres.

Not a lot of choices in Ness City or was that Mess City?

The Elite Suites and don't let the name fool you.

This is what we were dealing with all day. One touched down 15 miles north of us and they had softball size hail. As elite as it wasn't, we were grateful for roof over our heads and a basement just in case.

Believe me, the picture looks better than the reality!

Reminds us of some of the dives we lived in as young married college students only we

didn't have furniture or a television.

This is Ness City's claim to fame. The Sky Scraper of the Prairie. I think it's 3 stories.

It was for sure the highlight of the town.

Our first and probably last hamburger and the first meal that wasn't Mexican.

Maybe we should let the wind blow us back to Charlie's

We were so intrigued by this sign that we went to breakfast the next day at 8:00 just to make sure that everyone obeyed the sign. They did and we were gone with the wind.

We're so glad we discovered these routes. They're what we're trying to follow now.

Very few cars and beautiful scenery!

An All American mailbox.

The only building still alive in the town. I loved the Post Mistress. She let me use her bathroom. Maybe I should have taken the five bonus miles instead.

This is where yesterday's tornado was, but I think this one gave in years ago to wind and neglect. We had an awesome ride today and we think we love Kansas!

Wish you could all be here!

From here we went to Sterling. See why I love the Prairie Gardens B&B?
